Ellen Manetas was born in Jersey City, NJ, and she was one of four children. At age five, the family moved to Englewood, NJ where she grew up. Ellen attended high school in Fort Lee, NJ when Rt. 80 took the family home, and they needed to move to Englewood Cliffs, NJ. Ellen received a BA and MA degree from William Paterson University in Wayne, NJ in Childhood Education. Ellen is married to John Manetas for 49 years. Together they raised three children in Mahwah. All are now happily married: Aristotle (wife Claudine), Michael (wife Anne), and Mary (husband Robert Ferguson). They are also blessed to have six beautiful grandchildren.
Ellen worked in many different settings in education for thirty years. She also worked in the business world for 10 years. She sold mortgages for Household Finance Corporation, subsidiary of HSBC. As soon as she retired in 2005, she became involved in St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church, where John and Ellen were welcomed immediately with so much love. Ellen has served the Parish Council for the past three years, is Stewardship Chairman, coordinates Furniture Re-Sale, a board member of the St. Andrew Philoptochos, co-chairs the Knitting and Crochet Group and Pillow Ministry, is a member of the Choir, and a member of the group visiting our shut-ins. She says “‘It is such an honor to be part of this incredible family at St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church, and with God’s love and mercy, she can make a difference.”
